My god, I’d be afraid to walk on it...

I refinished floors for a bit when I lived in Rhode Island. Back in the day in New England they would  make a border of nice looking oak or similar and then fill in the center with cheaper pine. The idea was that the m iddle of the floor was going to be covered by a rug anyway, so there was no sense in spending good money on flooring that would be covered up anyway.

thats impressive. I once was in a house with a floor similar to that but of marble.

Yep, that's classic New England Yankee behavior. Can look decent if the whole thing is sanded and finished at the same time.

I usually love how these wood floor patterns look, but good god do they always look like they’d be a massive PITA to install

Gorgeous look... may need to “borrow” that idea.

In 30 years, this will be “Ugh, it has those 2019 Haute Parquet Floors....let’s rip them out”

Because Joanna Gaines will be our president. She’s got the highest approval rating of any human in the country right now.

Looks good to me (except for that one bit in the middle pic where it looks like things don’t line up right) . Labor is probably too expensive though. Clearly those panels should be cut and assembled in the developing world and then shipped and dropped into place like giant wooden tiles.

I’d take detours through the room just to have the privilege of walking on it. It’s a wood floor, not the Mona Lisa!

Holy shit what? I bought my house in RI this year and saw that multiple times, I thought it was because they pulled carpet up that ruined th e hardwood and cheaped  out on the repair. Your explanation is worse I think.

They are not natural wood, hand cut and laid into place by generational workman practicing a labor intensive old world traditional craft. Nor is the effect you note unintent ional.

A 200 lb dog with freshl y trimmed nails could pedal for traction and slide stop on that every day for years with hardly a mark. So long as it was kept clean.

There’s a very 70s contemporary vibe to this, but the rest of the room is another cloned mcmodern box.
